Professor Shomaker is a lifelong resident of the New River Valley and a proud beneficiary of the educational opportunities available in this beautiful region.  He attended New River Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Education, Radford University where he completed undergraduate degrees in History, and Philosophy and Religious Studies.  He then earned his Master of Arts degree in Philosophy and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA, where he also completed coursework toward a doctoral degree in Adult Development and Aging.  As part of the merger between Jefferson College of Health Sciences and Radford University in 2019,  Shomaker returned to the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department at Radford as a Radford University Carilion (RUC) faculty member.  Building on his 12 years of experience at Jefferson, Professor Shomaker is now sharing his passion for healthcare ethics with his beloved Highlander community.
