Do Your Part! Critical Information and Reminders
Dear Students:
I am reaching out to provide critical information and follow-up reminders related to Commonwealth of Virginia requirements, Radford University expectations, and public health guidance as we continue to navigate daily life in the midst of the global health pandemic. First, please know that the presence of COVID-19 on our campus continues to be a reality. The number of positive cases drastically declined since the beginning of the semester, but we are now seeing an increase in cases. Therefore, you must play an active and even greater role in keeping yourself and those you come in contact with safe and healthy.
The Commonwealth requires that you wear a mask. This is not optional. Compliance is mandatory, both on campus and in the community. Additionally, the University has instituted a 10-person gathering limitation. That must be followed both on campus and off campus. The limitation is being heavily enforced by University officials. Individuals and organizations violating the limitation continue to be suspended based on patrols, as well as information reported to the University. There are a number of internal and external parties that are independently and voluntarily reporting violations to the University. Also, public health officials are advising to wash hands regularly and stay home if you are ill or feeling ill.
Before the Fall semester began, the University clearly communicated the need for daily completion of symptom tracker. Compliance with this requirement has decreased in recent weeks. As a result, the response team will begin working with staff in the Office of Student Standards and Conduct to follow-up as necessary and appropriate with individual students who are not meeting this requirement. Again, the symptom tracker, which is available at http://www.radford.edu/symptom-tracker, was implemented as a way to assist students with being mindful and keeping track of their own health.
If you choose to ignore requirements, expectations, and guidance, you will be held accountable by the University and are at risk of contracting and/or spreading COVID-19. Now is the time for each and every student to double down on their individual commitment and social responsibility to do what is right!
Best,
Susan
