Message to Faculty from Faculty Senate President Jake R. Fox, Ph.D. and Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Joseph P. Scartelli, Ph.D.
Dear Faculty:
We are reaching out to express our full support for the University’s decision and the President’s announcement regarding modified campus operations following Spring Break in light of the COVID-19 global pandemic. As contributors to this decision, we want you to know that it was not easy or made lightly as it impacts all Radford University locations, including the main campus in Radford, Radford University Carilion in Roanoke, the Roanoke Higher Education Center, and the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon.
Yesterday’s announcement followed countless meetings, in-depth research, careful analysis, and thoughtful discussion about the potential impact on you, the faculty; our students; and the entire Radford family. It is the right thing to do as we place the welfare of our campus and our community first and foremost.
Without question, we have entered uncharted territory for our campus, our state, our country, and our society. And, we are fully aware that transitioning course content to online delivery in a short amount of time will not be an easy task. We pledge all of the support needed to make this possible.
We ask that you exhibit patience, compassion, and understanding during a time of great uncertainty for so many. Please know that our University is working diligently to address any and all concerns of our campus community. Do not hesitate to contact either of us if we can be of assistance with the challenging and important work ahead.
Sincerely,
Jake R. Fox, Ph.D.
Faculty Senate President
Joseph P. Scartelli, Ph.D.
