Monitoring the Coronavirus Radford University

Dear Students:

As you continue your Spring Break this week and prepare for the transition to online classes next week due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, please know that Radford University will continue to support you and your fellow Highlanders through various online services. As such, many offices are providing online engagement and resources for students. For detailed information by area, see the below items.

Harvey Knowledge Center

The Harvey Knowledge Center (HKC) will be supporting students with online tutoring and academic coaching. Video chat, phone appointments, email appointments, and NetTutor’s live and drop-off services are also being offered.

Students enrolled in courses through the main campus can continue making appointments using Starfish or by emailing the HKC at hkc@radford.edu. Main campus students can log into Desire2Learn (D2L) to access NetTutor. For questions concerning main campus services, contact the HKC at hkc@radford.edu or Jessica Beckett at jbeckett3@radford.edu.

Center for Accessibility Services
The Center for Accessibility Services (CAS) helps students with diagnosed disabilities receive reasonable accommodations for both online and face-to-face academic needs. If you are already receiving accommodations from your faculty, those accommodations are still in place. If you have a diagnosed disability and have not registered with CAS and believe you may benefit from accommodations, you can do so at any time by visiting our website and completing the ACCESS CAS Public Accommodation Request. All students may want to visit the CAS website for resources to help you navigate online learning and accommodations. If you are a student who has already registered with us and has questions, feel free to contact your coordinator by email. All students can contact CAS at cas@radford.edu and 540-831-6350.

Center for Career and Talent Development

The Center for Career and Talent Development staff will continue to serve students by utilizing virtual communication methods. With the transition to online learning, you should continue to discover career paths, plan internships, engage with potential employers, and apply for jobs. Staff have developed ways to leverage resources and services to support you as you continue to actively explore career opportunities, while engaging in online learning.

Work Online with Your Career Coach - Find your Career Coach and schedule a virtual face-to-face appointment using Zoom video conferencing; phone appointment using Zoom or phone; and email dialogue and critique (resumes, cover letters, etc.).

Attend Online Events - To the extent possible, we are shifting all employer events and workshops to an online format. On the Events page in Handshake, search for opportunities marked as “virtual session” event type.

Visit Our Career Resources Webpage - You are encouraged to access Handshake to complete your profile, find jobs and internships, register for events, and make appointments; use the Radford Resume Guide to create a resume that will get you noticed; practice your interview skills using Big Interview; and find advice and activities for every step as part of your career journey in the Radford Career Guide.

Student Health Center
The Student Health Center will remain open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00 am until 5:00 pm on Fridays. All students are asked to call prior to arrival as the doors will be locked for everyone’s protection. For routine healthcare needs, call 540-831-5111 as you may be directed to have a virtual visit with a provider. If you are having any symptoms of fever, cough, or shortness of breath, call 540-831-6496.

For medication refills and non-urgent medical questions, you are encouraged to call 540-831-5111 or send a MyChart message. Phone calls will be answered the same day as they are received. For those students who have been seen at the Student Health Center on Radford University’s main campus, but have not signed up for MyChart, visit https://www.carilionclinic.org/mychart#new-user-activation.

Student Counseling Services
Student Counseling Services (SCS) is open and available to students living within close proximity to campus. And, we are operating within our normal business hours of 8:00 am until 5:00 pm on Monday through Friday. You are encouraged to call 540-831-5226 should you need to utilize our services or discuss scheduling an appointment. If you are not in close proximity to campus and need mental health services, you are encouraged to visit your insurance company’s website for local providers in your area. If you do not have insurance, you are encouraged to contact your local Community Service Board (CSB). Every county, city, and town in the Commonwealth of Virginia is served by a CSB, which provides comprehensive mental health services. For additional information, visit http://www.dbhds.virginia.gov/community-services-boards-csbs. SCS is working diligently to establish telehealth offerings to our students, who are in need and physically located in Virginia. Once those details are finalized, additional information will be distributed.

Student Recreation and Wellness

Technology Assistance Center

The Technology Assistance Center will continue to provide technology support from 8:00 am until midnight Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am until 5:00 pm on Friday. An online support request can be submitted online at www.radford.edu/itonestop or by phone at 540-831-7500. Support for D2L is available 24/7 by calling 540-831-7500 and selecting option three on the menu.
