Message to RUC Faculty from Associate Provost for Health Sciences Teresa Ann Conner, PT, Ph.D., MBA and Assistant Vice President for Information Technology Margie Vest

Monitoring the Coronavirus Radford University

Dear Faculty:

As part of the University’s evolving plan in response to COVID-19 and as a follow-up to the additional information distributed to all faculty on Friday evening by Provost Scartelli, the following training sessions have been developed to assist Radford University Carilion (RUC) faculty with converting course work to an online delivery mode. The sessions below are specific to RUC and will be held on both Monday, March 16, 2020 and Tuesday, March 17, 2020. There is no sign-up required, and all sessions will be held at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, 6th Floor, Room 617.

9:00 am to 10:30 am: Introduction to Zoom. This session will demonstrate how to get started using Zoom to conduct class business. Zoom is a videoconferencing tool that can be used in many ways to support online classes. You can conduct live lectures, office hours, and audio-only (phone) meetings.

10:30 am to Noon: Asynchronous Lectures. This session will demonstrate how to create lecture materials for students to view on their own time. We will focus on recording voiceover PowerPoint presentations and uploading them to Blackboard and also answer any questions related to uploading other types of content into Blackboard.

1:30 pm to 3:30 pm: Online Assessment. This session will discuss how to move paper tests online using Respondus exam software and how to deploy an online test in Blackboard. We will also demonstrate how to set-up tests for Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor, which are tools used to help protect the integrity of online exams.

3:30 pm to 5:00 pm: Open Lab. This will allow an opportunity to ask questions and get help moving your content online.

Also, on Monday, March 16, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, 1st Floor, Room 111, David Halpin will be available to provide one-on-one assistance. The evening option is being provided for those needing additional assistance and/or those with child care issues given the Governor’s closure of public schools for the next two weeks.

Thank you for you continued commitment.

Sincerely,

Teresa Ann Conner, PT, Ph.D., MBA
